Known as a traditional fishing town and a holiday resort, Santa Pola is located on the southern coast of a sweeping bay just south of Alicante city. Nestled between a protruding cape that protects it from the north-easterly winds and the ancient salt lakes to the west. The town boasts 13km of beautiful beaches and rugged coves as well as a modern marina and port. With Alicante and Elche just 20 minutes either side, its proximity makes it very convenient to nip into the city for shopping or an evening out and commuting from the airport is just a short journey. The town has a respectable amount of shops and services on its high streets to cover most peoples needs and there are plenty of fine restaurants and bars to explore. Just off the coastline is the touristic island of Tabarca with ferries regularly servicing it from the port. Here is a real jewel in the Alicante province with its rustic village offering fresh sea food on its shores and its waters a snorkeler’s paradise being a marine reserve to the wonderful Mediterranean fish and fauna.
Gran Alacant lies on the northern face of the cape of Santa Pola and has become a bustling cosmopolitan district under the municipality of Santa Pola town. There are several urbanisations that make up the developing town which currently has a population of just over 9,000 people. The excellent location provides many of the residents with striking views of the sea and bay of Alicante. There is a shopping centre and several commercial areas spread across the area as well as a school and weekly market. The development of modern housing with that offer gardens and plenty of outside space make it a popular destination to live and visit.
